With the keys in our hands, we’re delighted to announce our plans to expand into North Berwick with a new branch on the seaside town’s thriving high street.
Located on 99 High Street, the premise (formerly Joules) will undergo a complete refurbishment before reopening in September. We plan to include a reception area, viewing space and arranging room, affording local families the highest level of funeral care.
The new North Berwick office will strengthen our presence in East Lothian, following in the footsteps of the successful Haddington branch. After 23 years under its ownership, Wood and Hay funeral directors rebranded to William Purves Haddington in 2020.
Our family-run funeral director has strong connections with the local clergy and businesses, including florists, musicians, and funeral venues. An advocate of offering green funeral options, we have close ties with Binning Memorial Wood.
William Purves is celebrating its 135th anniversary this year. Our family-owned business has passed through five generations and today, comprises a team of over 100 staff in locations across Scotland and northeast England. North Berwick will be our 25th branch.
Funeral director Mark Sutherland said of the opening:
“William Purves has supported grieving families in East Lothian for decades and was looking to build on this service with a new branch.
“Having worked with many families in North Berwick, it felt like the perfect fit. Our new location on the High Street is a convenient spot for locals to drop in to ask questions and discuss plans when the new space opens.”
Tim Purves, chairman and great-great-grandson of founder William Purves, adds:
This is an exciting development for William Purves, particularly as we mark 135 years in business. We are excited to become part of this thriving local community and are actively recruiting locally for someone from the town to be our newest branch administrator.”
With an extensive refurbishment planned, the new branch will enrich and enhance the funeral offering in North Berwick and give people greater choice when it comes to funeral planning. Even now, families who need assistance or who want to discuss future wishes can call our team on 01620 674100.
